NORTHERN IRELAND
- John Davies

John Davies joined the Royal Air Force in 1965 as an Administrative Apprentice. After graduation he was based for a period at RAF Cottesmore, a V-Bomber station in Rutland. This was followed by a 2 year tour of duty in Libya, after which he saw service in many parts of the United Kingdom and Germany. He later served on the Administrative Staff of Headquarters Strike Command and was the Adjutant of No 10 (Long Range Air Transport) Squadron, Royal Air Force Brize Norton during the Falklands War. Other tours included Chief Clerk at Royal Air Force Hullavington in Wiltshire and almost 4 years in the Western Isles of Scotland, where he was both OC Administrative Flight at Royal Air Force Benbecula and Deputy Unit Commander, Royal Air Force Stornoway; and on the

Personnel & Logistics Staff of the Allied Air Commander Baltic Approaches based in Karup, Denmark.

After almost 28 years service having attained the rank of Warrant Officer, John retired from the Royal Air Force in August 1992. John joined the staff of the Royal Air Forces Association in December 1992 as Director Northern Ireland and his responsibilities include the overall Administration, Welfare and Fundraising activities of the Association in the Province; he also represents the Royal Air Forces Association on a number of statutory and voluntary bodies within Northern Ireland. John has been a member of the Northern Ireland War Pensions Committee since January 1993 and was Vice-Chairman from 2000 to 2004; he was appointed Chairman in July 2004.
