THE ROYAL NAVAL PATROL SERVICE ONLINE MEMORIAL

The RNPS charity has launched web pages to support veterans’ families whose loved ones were lost at sea during WWII.

Belle Vue Park Memorial PhotoDuring WWII nearly 2,500 members were lost, mainly at sea and with no known grave.  They are commemorated on a memorial in Belle Vue Park, Lowestoft, which was erected and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

Visitors to the Web pages can now find details of their relative and view their name on one of the memorial’s seventeen bronze panels illustrated there.  It has meant that relatives and friends who may previously have been unable to visit the memorial now have the opportunity to do so via the Web pages.

The RNPS Charity

The RNPS was one of several Royal Navy bases in Lowestoft during WWII and had its headquarters (HMS Europa) at Sparrows Nest.

During the war years this administrative depot handled the organisation, training and postings of some 70,000 men in some 6,000 ships.
