Helping Disabled Veterans Break Into The Business World

In Issue 7 (Spring 2007), VeteransWORLD reported on the launch of Leonard Cheshire’s Ready to Start programme in Newcastle and how one veteran ‘had got started’.

Since that issue, 1,000 clients have enrolled in the Programme, with 200 now running their own businesses. There are now 27 Programme's based across England and Wales.

The Programme is innovative and flexible, meeting the needs of disabled people seeking employment. It provides the right training, signposting, mentoring and support tailored to suit the individual’s disablement and help them start their own business.

New Information Portal launched

The new website, called the Disability Information Portal (DIP) www.dip-online.org is a ‘one stop shop’ for the latest disability information, news and views.

The Portal has been developed by Leonard Cheshire Disability with support from charities like the MS Society, RNID and Action For Blind People.

DIP is in a pilot phase and Leonard Cheshire Disability wants more people to log on to use the site and help shape the way it develops.

As well as information and advice, the site is a place to share opinions on rolling disability news stories which may help to shape policy and opinions across the disabled community and beyond.

The site is free, visitors can write a blog, find out about local services and it’s easy to sign up.
