Life After Disablement

Fourteen years ago, Philip Aucott was an Army Corporal in the Royal Corps ofTransport. On leave one day his life suddenly changed - he was involved in a motorbike accident and his left leg had to be amputated above the knee.

Philip, 39, lives in Nottingham and works for the City Council. He says:“Since leaving the Army I have been determined to get on with life, continue driving and remain fit and active. I do as much as possible to experience new and exciting sports, from hiking in the Lake District to ski-bobbing in Austria, and encourage my two young daughters to get involved as well.

“Taking part in all these activities means alot of driving from place to place and one of my biggest worries used to be breaking down in my old car. But that’s all changed since a friend recommended the Motability Scheme.

I decided to use my mobility allowance to lease an automatic Vauxhall Zafira and now my Motability car plays a very big part in keeping me and my family mobile. It’s given me real peace of mind knowing that I’ve got a reliable car, with tax, insurance, maintenance and breakdown cover all taken care of as part of the package – and I’ll get a brand new car every three years!”
