War artist to give talk at the National Memorial Arboretum
Sergeant Major Douglas Farthing MBE, the war artist whose paintings are currently being exhibited at the National Memorial the Arboretum, will give a talk in the Arboretum's Millennium Chapel on Tuesday 31st January at 11.30am. This will be followed by a Meet the Artist session in the Long Gallery where his paintings are on display.
The exhibition, entitled 2 Years 2 Wars, is the culmination of two journeys recorded by Sgt Maj Farthing in his travelling war diaries. Featuring Iraq and the North West Frontier (on the Afghan and Pakistan border) his art records war and the effects of war.
Sgt Maj Farthing will bring his sketch books and other personal items to give visitors an insight into his life in service and as a war artist, and he will be happy to meet visitors and talk about his experiences.
2Years2Wars will be on display in the Long Gallery within the Visitor Centre until the end of February and can be viewed daily between 9am and 5pm. Entry to the National Memorial Arboretum, which is part of The Royal British Legion family of charities, is free although donations are appreciated.
Please note that from January to the end of March 2012 there is a reduced car parking fee of £1.50. For further details of the exhibition visit www.thenma.org.uk/events or www.mandellsgallery.co.uk/douglasfarthing .
