TRAVELAID SCOTLAND

WHAT IS TRAVELAID?
TravelAid is a Fund established and administered by the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) with assistance and support from Classic Travel Scotland. Its aim is to assist immediate family members of injured Service personnel to be able to visit them in hospital.

WHY HAS THIS FUND BEEN ESTABLISHED?

It is designed to help after MoD assistance is no longer available, and where Units are unable to provide travel warrants or accommodation. The RBLS has recognised the difficulties facing family members, domiciled in Scotland, wishing to visit an injured family member who is being treated at any of the 5 Ministry of Defence Hospital Units (MDHU), the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine (RCDM), Selly Oak, Birmingham, the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) Headley Court, Surrey, or any established Military Medical treatment facility in the UK.

WHAT ABOUT MOD RESPONSIBILITY?
TravelAid will not take on or provide assistance where there is clear MoD or Unit responsibility.

WHO MAY APPLY?
The spouse, legal partner, parent, grandparent, or any immediate family member may apply.
If none of the above is available we may consider an application from an in-law or friend but we will firstly verify the request, which could cause a delay and the Fund reserve the right to decline any application.
It is important to note that the injured service person must consent and agree on who they wish to visit before the RBLS will commit to providing assistance.

WHAT DOES THE FUND COVER?
The Fund covers travel and accommodation
only.
It will not cover:-
1. Transport from home to place of
departure, except where that has
been agreed with the applicant.
2. Travel between accommodation and
the hospital.
3. Any additional incidental expenses or
purchases.
4. Travel and medical Insurance.
5. Personal property.

HOW IS PAYMENT MADE?
We will not make payment for travel or accommodation direct to the applicant. Travel
and accommodation costs will be invoiced to the fund by the agreed and appointed travel
agency.

WHAT WILL YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR?
You will be required to pay for;
1. Additional meals (except for where
they are provided in the
accommodation costs).
2. Incidental expenses.
3. All insurance cover, medical/travel.
4. Travel to and from accommodation to
hospital.
5. Travel from home to place of
destination except where advised in
advance.

HOW LONG WILL YOU BE ABLE TO STAY?
We (RBLS), or the travel agency, will advise on the length of stay being covered by our
funding. Accommodation may be for up to 5 nights although it may have to be for a shorter
period dependant on demand and availability of funds.

IMPORTANT
You will be provided with a unique reference number, once your application has been
agreed, this will be used to confirm your bookings and in all communications.
Please keep a record of this reference

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION SCOTLAND
The RBLS sincerely thanks Classic travel Scotland for their support and assistance. The RBLS, being a registered Scottish Charity, relies on donations for its charitable work. If you wish to make a donation please
send a cheque payable to RBLS TravelAid.

NOTES AND CONTACT DETAILS HOW DO WE APPLY?
Applications are made by contacting the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS), through the telephone number on the outside page. Alternatively, contact may be made via the families Officer of the service persons parent unit or through the Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) run by the Red Cross and St John based at the treating MDHU.

HOW LONG WILL APPLICANTS HAVE TO WAIT?
The Fund will try to eliminate as much bureaucratic delay as possible. It is hoped to be able to confirm travel and accommodation within 3 working days after receipt of an application. The period may be longer due to National or Local Holidays and at peak times of travel.

DISCLOSURES
You will be required to give permission for your details to be passed to a third party for all the relevant arrangements to be made. You will required to disclose to the RBLS and the travel agency any special medical requirements or conditions.
