Heather takes on the ultimate challenge abseiling for Scotland's veterans

An Erskine supporter is to take on the ultimate challenge of abseiling 165ft SAS style in aid of the country's war heroes.

picture of Heather SinclairHeather Sinclair, 31, was inspired to support the veterans' charity after picking up a leaflet about Erskine. She was motivated by the work it does to help ex-Service men and women and wanted to put her challenge of increasing her fitness to good use.

On Sunday 10th June, Heather from Knightswood, will join other supporters of Erskine to abseil off the Forth Rail Bridge in Edinburgh in an effort to raise £500. Entrants will abseil off a platform 165ft high before landing on the beach below.

The event is being run by Chest, Heart and Stroke Association Scotland on behalf of other charities.

Heather, who works for the Learning Disabilities Team in West Dunbartonshire, said: "The inspiration for the abseil came one day when I picked up a leaflet about Erskine. I was really struggling at times to motivate myself to get along to my local gym at David Lloyd in Anniesland, and then to work hard when I was there.

"I had seen numerous stories in the media about injured men and woman from the armed forces who facea huge battle to get mobile again after the loss of a limb. I know how hard it can be to get in shape with absolutely no injury so I cannot imagine the dedication it must take with a devastating injury. I am hoping to raise £500 for Erskine, but it is early days yet and hope everyone will get behind me to support this fantastic cause."Erkine week 1st-8th June graphic

John Fyfe, Erskine Fundraiser, said: "We are delighted that Heather is joining Erskine supporters across Scotland in taking on The Ultimate Abseil. She is very courageous to tackle this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, as dangling 165ft in the air is not for the faint-hearted. Her fundraising efforts will raise vital funds for the brave veterans from past and current conflicts in Erskine care."

Each abseiler must pledge to raise a minimum of £125 for Erskine in sponsorship. Advance sponsorship of £20 is needed to confirm your place.
