Ride to the Wall 2011

Saturday 1st October will see the fourth annual Ride to the Wall motorcycle event take place, with many thousands of motorcyclists from around the country making a pilgrimage to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

Ride to the Wall is the only event of its kind in the country that gives motorcyclists the opportunity to show their support for the Armed Forces with a dedicated service of Remembrance. It also raises considerable funds for the National Memorial Arboretum, part of The Royal British Legion family of charities, and which provides a permanent home to the striking Armed Forces Memorial.

Joining the ride this year is Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson, who was seriously injured in Afghanistan whilst on a patrol with 7 Para RHA in September 2006. Ben sustained horrific injuries in the land mine incident, with the loss of both of his legs, severe brain injuries and a broken spine. He is still the most severely injured soldier ever to survive, but despite this, he has gone on to complete a number of incredible physical challenges.

Riders are attending from all corners of the UK as well as continental Europe, either as individuals or in groups and chapters from particular organisations, such as regional Harley Owners Groups, The Royal British Legion Riders Branch and a large number of other owners groups and motorcycle clubs.

RTTW founder, Martin Dickinson, said: "Once again bikers from all over the country and parts of Europe are joining together to show their incredible passion and their commitment to this event. We expect RTTW to be even bigger and better this year and feel privileged to be associated with it."

From 08.30am, motorcyclists will leave one of the seven designated start points to ride to the Arboretum. Later, the Silver Stars Parachute Display Team will signal the start of a service of Remembrance at the walls of the Armed Forced Memorial, which is engraved with the names of more than 16,000 service men and women killed on duty or by terrorist action since the end of the Second World War.

Riders wishing to join this tribute to our Armed Forces can register at www.rttw.org.
