Prime Minister Praises Tickets for Troops

PRIME Minister David Cameron today highlighted the work of the charity Tickets For Troops for its role in supporting the Armed Forces by providing free tickets for major sports, music and cultural events.

Mr Cameron helped launch the charity before he became Prime Minister last November and over 200.000 tickets have been distributed to members of the military.
The Prime Minister was responding to a question during a live question and answer session Birmingham when he was asked what more he could do for the ‘junior ranks.’
Mr Cameron asked the questioner whether he had ‘used’ Tickets For Troops and he replied that he had secured tickets for a West Bromwich Albion football match.

“The respect we show for our armed forces, is something we should do more of. I helped set up a charity called Tickets For Troops, which is a simple idea.”

He also paid tribute to the many organisations which had supported the charity by offering tickets. He said: “What is impressive is, we rang up all the football clubs, rang up all the rugby clubs, we got hold of all the people that put on shows in the West End, virtually everybody said yes, from Frank Warren - the boxing promoter, to Manchester United football club, to West Bromwich Albion. And this is providing lots of opportunities for organisations to say to our armed forces 'we think you're great, come and see our show for free' - brilliant idea, though I say it myself. Now it has nothing to do with me - it is independent and running itself, but it's just one example of the many things we should be doing to say 'we in Britain respect our armed forces, and are proud of what you do.”

The PM’s wife Mrs Samantha Cameron has also become a Patron and hosted a Downing Street reception last month to mark the appointment of Christina Schmid, the widow of bomb disposal hero Olaf Schmid as a Patron.
