DAWN FIRES UP NEW YORK TO REACH HER TARGET IN AID OF VETERANS’ CHARITY

A Firearms Officer has blown away her target and raised vital funds for Scottish veterans by running the New York Marathon.

Dawn McMaster put on her running shoes to complete the gruelling Big Apple race in November last year as the only runner competing for the veterans’ charity Erskine.

She was inspired to take on the 26.3 mile course in memory of her late great Uncle Harry who spent time as a resident at The Erskine Home, Bishopton, after he lost both his legs in the Second World War. The former Royal Highland Fusilier went on to marry his nurse, Josephine whom he had four children with.

Dawn, from Dalry in Ayrshire, was overjoyed to raise £1,300 for Erskine, after initially setting a target of £1,000. She recently visited The Erskine Home to hand over her fantastic donation to delighted veterans Peter Wilson, RAF, and Irene Adam, WAAF.

Dawn, the first female to join the Firearms squad in Baird Street , said: “I am just so pleased that I could raise something for Erskine, it is a wee thank you for the care this wonderful charity provided to my Uncle Harry. Every little helps and I know this money will be put to extremely good use.”

Peter Macfarlane, Erskine fundraiser, said: “Dawn ensured that the Erskine flag was flying extremely high in New York , raising a fantastic amount of money which will help our charity to care for even more veterans and serving personnel in Scotland .”
