
MANCHESTER CHARITY LAUNCHES MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE FOR VETERANS
User-led mental health charity, Self Help Services is pleased to announce the launch of a new course helping Veterans cope with various mental-health struggles triggered by traumatic and stressful experiences. The Veterans Stress Awareness Course is the outcome of a partnership between Military Mental Health CIC and Self Help Services.
The free six-week course is funded by the Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) initiative by the government in the North West and there will be four Veterans Stress Awareness Courses running in the coming year.
Richard Williams, registered mental health nurse and armed forces veteran from Military Mental Health says, “The Veterans Stress Awareness Course is a unique 6 week intervention aimed specifically at Armed Forces Veterans who want help on coping with a range of challenges including, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anger, Low Mood, Adjustment problems & Alcohol Awareness. It is facilitated by professionally qualified and registered veterans who have experienced these challenges. "
Charlotte Cooke, Community Services Manager at Self Help Services said, “The IAPT scheme in the North West has made the delivery of veteran’s services a priority and this is being addressed through the provision of services such as The Veterans Stress Awareness Course. We’re pleased that Self Help Services is helping to make services to veterans more accessible. “
