TICKETS FOR TROOPS – ‘The Great Game’

The Tricycle Theatre have donated tickets for ‘The Great Game’, their current production which is a series of 12 short plays, creating an educational drama about the culture and history of Afghanistan .

“The Great Game” was a term used for the strategic rivalry and conflict between the British Empire and the Russian Empire for supremacy in Central Asia . The classic Great Game period is generally regarded as running approximately from the Russo-Persian Treaty of 1813 to the Anglo-Russian Convention of 1907.

The play was recently reviewed in The Times by the incoming Chief of Defence Staff Sir David Richards who championed its value for members of the Armed Forces as well as the general public saying: ‘Nothing learnt in the classroom will have had the same subliminal effects as this. It is crucial that all of us who work out there have a more nuanced understanding of the historical background that got us to this point.

Tickets For Troops Chairman, Lord Marland said: “Tickets For Troops has benefited from a great wave of generosity from our ticket donors who have wanted to demonstrate their support and show their appreciation for the dedication and commitment of the marvellous men and women of our Armed Forces. I would like to thank The Tricycle Theatre for their kind and fantastic support in establishing this relationship”

Tickets For Troops has been supported by a wide range of organisations and has been able to offer free tickets to a huge number of high profile events; recently these have included tickets for Rod Stewart, Avenue Q as well as the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The charity was set up last year to provide members of the Armed Forces with free tickets for major sporting events including football, horse racing, rugby, darts and cricket matches as well as theatre performances, music concerts and cultural attractions. Since launching it has provided over 200,000 tickets and almost 60,000 troops have registered on the website - www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk

Patron Joanna Lumley said: “This is a win-win arrangement: brave and deserving troops get to see shows, concerts, fights and games virtually free: and we in the world of entertainment and sport get a chance to show them that we think they are the best of the best and support them with all our hearts. Fabulous.”

Troops are encouraged to go online and register at www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk to take advantage of the fantastic tickets available for our Armed Forces.
