OFFICIAL OPENING OF ERSKINE’S NEW GARDEN CENTRE AND VANISHING WILLOWS CAFÉ
The veterans’ charity Erskine today (Tuesday 8th March) held the Civic Opening of their new Garden Centre and Vanishing Willows Café. Officiating were Erskine President, The Rt. Hon. The Lord Provost of Glasgow, Robert Winter, and Chairman James Scott.
Army veteran and Operations Manager James Miller made a moving speech to the audience of nearly 100 people who attended the opening. The new purpose-built Erskine Garden Centre opened in May 2010, replacing the smaller centre in the heart of Erskine’s Bishopton estate. Offering the highest quality in gardening produce, equipment and expertise, the Erskine Garden Centre also offers a luxury range of gifts. The modern building is also home to the Vanishing Willows Cafe, which offers a delicious range of mouth-watering food designed by long-time Erskine supporter and Scottish celebrity chef Nick Nairn.
As part of Erskine’s commitment to supported employment, the ventures also make up two of the charity’s Social Firms which offer employment opportunities to veterans and disabled workers. All proceeds from the Erskine Garden Centre & Vanishing Willows Cafe go back into the high standard of care and quality of life provided for ex-Service men and women at Erskine’s five care homes across Scotland .
The Lord Provost of Glasgow, Robert Winter, said: “As Lord Provost of Glasgow , I have many delightful duties and honours and one that truly delights me is being the President of Erskine. I am truly honoured to be here today to officially open the Erskine Garden Centre.”
Erskine Chairman, Jim Scott, said: “I am honoured to be here today and to have played my part in the overall project. When you hear of the difference we make to lives, such as that of James, I know it has been worth all the hard work and commitment”
