THE ERSKINE VETERANS ROSE
World War II hero Joe Parker (90) delighted Miss UK 2010, Katharine Brown, with an extra special red rose ahead of Valentine’s Day when she visited the Erskine Garden Centre. The centre is run by the veterans’ charity Erskine to employ veterans and disabled people.
Erskine ambassador Katharine officially launched “The Erskine Veterans Rose” which will raise much needed money to pay for the care that 1400 veterans rely on each year.
The new rose is dedicated to Erskine which provides respite and long-term care in five purpose built homes across Scotland . In addition Erskine has five social firms all of which provide supported employment to the disabled and ex-Service workers. For every rose purchased all profits are channelled directly back into the charity, enabling it to carry on delivering the highest standard of care.
RAF veteran Joe said: “It is always a pleasure to present a lady with a red rose, especially if she is as lovely as Katharine. I think the rose will be a great way to raise money for Erskine, and I can say first hand that the care at Erskine is first class”.
Katharine said: “I am really proud to have launched this very special rose. I would be over the moon if someone bought me “The Erskine Veterans Rose” for Valentine’s Day, to me it shows that not only do they care for me but also for all the men and women who have sacrificed so much. This is what makes this rose so very special!”
Garden Centre Operations Manager and Army veteran James Miller said: ‘“The Erskine Veterans Rose”, is unique to Erskine and we are anticipating it will be one of our best sellers. I was a veteran struggling to adapt to Civvy Street and thankfully Erskine was there for me’
“The Erskine Veterans Rose” is on sale now from the Erskine Garden Centre, Erskine Estate, Bishopton.
