The Soldiers perform special Bishops Park gig for Fulham veterans
Singing sensation The Soldiers played a special gig in Fulham to support a self-help cafe project which helps veterans with experience of homelessness.
The platinum-selling band, made up Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi, Staff Sergeant Richie Maddocks and Sergeant Major Gary Chilton, performed songs from their hit first album and forthcoming follow-up at the Pryors Bank Cafe in Bishops Park, next to Putney Bridge.
They also donated £8,000 for new equipment at the cafe, which is staffed by ex-service personnel and was launched two years ago by the Sir Oswald Stoll Foundation, a home for veterans next to the Chelsea FC ground in Fulham.
All profits go back to the foundation to help provide housing and support for vulnerable and disabled former members of the armed forces, particularly those who have been homeless.
Fundraising manager Lesley McGinty said: "We are immensely proud of Pryors Bank and the work it does to help our residents back into work.
"We really appreciate that The Soldiers want to give their time to spend the day with our apprentices. As serving soldiers themselves, they already have an awareness and understanding of the issues that those in the forces have to face."
The Soldiers performed a song from their debut, Coming Home, and the title track of their new album, Letters Home, which takes lyrics from the final letter written to his family by Guardsman Tony Downes, who was killed in action in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in June 2007.
