BATTLE OF BRITAIN CHARITY NIGHT WILL HELP RAF FAMILIES IN NEED

Much needed funds will be raised for the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) at a unique charity dinner at the National Cold War Exhibition at the RAF Museum , Cosford on September 11. All proceeds from the event will help people like two-year-old Adam Bailey, the son of an RAF Sergeant at the Shropshire airbase.

Adam, who suffers from a rare brain disorder, requires regular trips to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London . The RAF Benevolent Fund helped by covering travel and accommodation costs for the family during these visits. Dad Shaun (42), a Sergeant currently serving at RAF Cosford, said:

“The RAF Benevolent Fund has helped take away some of the burden from us. Without them we would have been stuck.”

Others to benefit from the RAFBF include RAF Corporal Pam Grainger (38), of Shifnal, who lost the use of an arm and suffered multiple broken bones and serious internal injuries in a motorbike crash eight years ago.  With the help of essential car adaptations paid for by the RAFBF, she is now training for the London Paralympics after gaining a silver medal in air pistol shooting at a national championship event.

RAF Cosford Station Commander Chris Green urged the people of Shropshire and the West Midlands to buy tickets for September’s gala dinner to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and help people like the Bailey family and Pam.

“This will be a truly amazing evening with guests able to enjoy a dinner and entertainment in these stunning surroundings sitting near to Vulcan, Victor and Valiant bombers. Nowhere else in the world are these three V bombers visible together. It will be an electrifying evening.”

Guests at the black tie and ball gown event will enjoy a champagne reception among the museum’s unique planes including the world’s oldest Spitfire. A poignant sunset ceremony will take place on the parade ground as guests pay tribute to the pilots of the Second World War.
