ONE SMALL BOX – 5.5 MILLION SAY THANK YOU
This weekend, remembrance services will take place across your region as we pause to remember those who have given their lives in the service of their country. Many of the estimated 5.5 million veterans will attend and your reports will be read by even more.
Please think of our veterans and include the attached information box at the end of your articles. The Veterans-UK helpline is the Government’s dedicated free contact point for veterans who need help and advice on an issue, from war pensions to welfare, campaign medals to benefits.
Free help and advice is available to anyone who has served in HM Forces. Call the Veterans-UK helpline
on 0800 169 2277 or visit www.veterans-uk.info |

Notes to Editors:
- Veterans-UK was launched in April 2007 to provide a focal point for veterans to access services from the many different sources of help available. The first services using the name are the Veterans-UK helpline, 0800 169 2277 and website www.veterans-uk.info – providing advice on issues such as disability pensions, benefits, housing and much more. The Veterans Welfare service also provides one to one advice, in the home if needed, to veterans across the UK and Ireland.
- The Service Personnel and Veterans Agency provides
a series of through life support services to both serving and ex-Service
personnel. These
range from Forces Pay and HR, through repatriation of personnel injured
overseas, to support for veterans and their families.
- Who is a veteran? Who
can we help?
A veteran is anyone who has served in HM Armed Forces, regular or reserve including National Servicemen, former Polish forces under British command and Merchant Mariners who have seen duty in military operations (e.g. the Falklands Conflict). Veterans, along with their families and dependents make up the veterans community and all are entitled to our services.
