Other allowances and help you may be
entitled to
You may be entitled to help in other ways, for example, other benefits. You
may be entitled to these benefits even if you are not entitled to a war pension.
This list is not exhaustive.
Basic State Retirement
Pension
You cannot get a basic state Retirement Pension if you are getting Unemployability
Supplement, but you will be able to receive any graduated pension or additional
pension you are entitled to for contributions you have paid.

Bereavement Benefit

Carer's Allowance
This is an allowance for someone who may be looking after you instead of
going out to work. Or they may be doing other work as well as looking after
you. We call these people carers. If you want more information, you can
get DS 700 Carer's Allowance Claim Pack from your local Jobcentre Plus,
social security office or post office.
If your carer is getting Income Support, they may be entitled to an extra
amount of money called the carer premium. They should get in touch with their
local Jobcentre Plus or social security office to find out more

Council Tax Benefit
Council Tax Benefit is a benefit run by your local council. Council Tax Benefit
can help pay some or all of your Council Tax. If you want more information,
you can get leaflet CTB1 Help with the Council Tax from your local social
security office, local council or post office.
If you claim Income Support, Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit, £10 a week of your war pension will be ignored when working out how much of these benefits/entitlements you are entitled to. (Some local councils ignore more than £10 for Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit, please check your local council for more details.)
Housing Benefit
You may be entitled to help from your local council with paying rent for
the place where you live. This is called Housing Benefit. If you want more
information you can get leaflet RR1 Housing Benefit- help with your rent
from your local council.
Incapacity Benefit
You cannot get Incapacity Benefit if you are getting Unemployability Supplement.

Income Support
or Pension Credit
You may be entitled to Income Support or Pension Credit as well as your war
pension, even if you did not get it before. If you want more information
you can ask your local Jobcentre Plus, social security office or pension
centre.

Jobseeker's Allowance
(Unemployment Benefit)
You cannot get Jobseeker's Allowance if you are getting Unemployability Supplement.

Warm Front
Grant
This scheme gives government grants to cover the costs of making your home
warmer. If you want to know more about this, you can ring free on either
0800 316 6011 or 0800 952 0600. Or get a leaflet from any local Jobcentre
Plus or social security office. You may be entitled to this grant if you
receive a War Disablement Pension and a War Pensions Constant Attendance
Allowance or War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement.
Working Tax
Credit and Child Tax Credit
You may be entitled to Working Tax Credit if:
- you are a single person; or
- you are a married couple living together; or
- you are a man and woman living together as if you are married;
and
- your in paid work (including working as a self employed person) for the required number of hours.
Child Tax Credit is for people with at least one child.
If you want more information, you can get claim pack TC600 New Tax Credit from your local Jobcentre Plus, social security office or post office.
