Survivors Benefits
In this section, you will find information on payments that can be made to those left behind when a service person or veteran dies as a result of their service in the Armed Forces. There are two schemes that may apply:
- The Armed Forces Compensation Scheme where the cause of death originated from service on or after 6 April 2005.
- The War Widow(er)s Pension scheme where the cause of death originated from service before 6 April 2005.
It can sometimes be difficult to decide when a cause of death first originated, especially where an illness is involved, so we have included information on both schemes within this section. Don’t worry - SPVA can help you decide which scheme may apply in your particular case.
