Isle of Man does Veterans Proud……
At
a Veterans Day in July the Isle of Man Government, through a committee chaired
by John Moore and Brigadier Norman Butler CBE also supported from the Service
Personnel and Veterans Agency, gave its Veterans a day to remember. To
the massed bands of the Island, Veterans paraded along the attractive Douglas
promenade in blazing, specially requisitioned Manx sunshine. Those who could
not march drove in state in a fleet of vintage cars.
The salute was taken by the Lt.Gov.
Vice-Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks KCB. A Service of Thanksgiving was conducted
by the Archdeacon of Mann, the Ven Brian Smith (former RAF Chaplain). The
Lord Bishop of Sodor and Man the Rt Rev Graeme Knowles gave the blessing. There
was then an excellent tea. The Youth organisations, Schools and Cadet
Forces helped to serve.
The Manx Youth Bands and others provided the
musical background. A full evening of dancing and entertainment followed
to the Big Band sound of the Manx Swing Band and a packed programme other
local artistes. The last revellers were extracted from the Royal Hall
of the beautiful Villa Marina at 1030 p.m. and transported home (singing
????).
