Case Study 3 - Airman A, a 50-year-old Senior NCO, Technical Branch, RAF, from the West Country.

Airman A came to the MAP 8 years after leaving the Royal Air Force suffering multiple symptoms and pain which led to a marked deterioration in his quality of life.

Although he had been seen and managed by his local NHS Services, his pain seemed to have worsened. Both patient and GP wondered whether his condition may have been related to service in the Gulf. Airman A attended the MAP in late 2006, and was assessed over a period of 2 to 3 hours and the consultation was able to allay his fears that his condition was related to service in the Gulf.

Further perusal of Service and NHS medical records revealed new clinical findings, which have led to new avenues of therapeutic treatment undertaken through his GP and local Health Services.
