Case Study 2 - Soldier B, a 35-year-old Infantry Senior NCO from Scotland.Soldier B was seen at the MAP two years after leaving Service. He had an exemplary Service record, but had been medically discharged following an injury during training, which left him in constant pain and distress and abruptly ended his military career.
Soldier B had received excellent treatment from NHS Orthopaedic Surgeons and Pain Management Specialists. The Clinical Psychologist in charge of his case in the Pain Management Service referred him to the MAP as he was anxious that Soldier B’s problems related to his service in the Gulf.
Soldier B was assessed over two sessions each lasting three hours which led to a much greater understanding of his physical and mental health requirements. Information from the sessions was passed on to Soldier B’s GP and Pain Management Service.
The MAP sessions have also allowed the individual to have his story heard in a sympathetic way, which has allowed him to identify other issues in his life which require attention.
