Case Study 1 - Soldier A, a 32-year-old Junior NCO Paratrooper from the North-West of England. This soldier served not only in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also West Africa, the former Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland. His mental health was of great concern when he left service and he was admitted to a local psychiatric facility. His Consultant Psychiatrist contacted the MAP for advice and assessment.
Soldier A was seen on three separate occasions at the MAP, all within 18 months of him leaving Service, and each appointment lasted between two and three hours. Over the course of the assessment it was possible to get a full picture of his post traumatic mental illness, and also give feedback to the local Mental Health services on issues of particular relevance that would help with Soldier A’s treatment.
Given the complexity of this case, follow-up information will continue to be sought from Soldier A’s GP and Consultant for the next 6 months.
Soldier A has been told he is welcome to contact the MAP at any time for more information.
