Veterans Policy
Unit
The Veterans Policy Unit (VPU) was formed in 2004
from the merger of the Gulf Veterans’ Illnesses Unit and the Veterans
Affairs Secretariat. The Unit provides support to the Minister for Veterans
and Under Secretary of State for Defence, Derek Twigg MP. It comprises around
35 Military and Civilian Personnel, and covers a range of policy issues and
projects relating to Veterans, including ex-Service homelessness, legacy
health matters, veterans awareness events, commemorative booklets, war graves
and education initiatives. The VPU also runs the Veterans Challenge Fund.
With close links to the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency, ex-Service
organisations and other Government Departments, VPU strives to ensure that
our millions of veterans receive the best possible service.
