The Central Advisory Committee
on Pensions and Compensation
The committee was established by the War Pensions
Act 1921 to “consider such matters as may be put before them by the
Minister for their advice”. Its role today has evolved. Having
previously been concerned mainly with compensation for ex-service personnel
and wider veterans issues, the committee is now to provide advice on policy
issues and to act as a consultative mechanism for all the service pension
and compensation schemes.

War Pension Committees
(WPCs) have
existed since the 1920s, supporting the welfare of war pensioners and war
widows, hearing their complaints on war pension issues and making recommendations
to the government and its agencies.
There are 13 War Pensions Committees throughout the United Kingdom, with separate committees in the Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland. Members of the WPCs are appointed by the Secretary of State and are independent of the Veterans Agency.
